Parental/Carer Consent for Receiving Digital Marketing Material
As you may be aware, there are a number of changes to data protection legislation coming into effect on 25th May 2018. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is being introduced across Europe to strengthen the rights of individuals.
Part of the GDPR are changes to the rules about direct marketing. If an organisation wishes to digitally market products and services to individuals it must obtain specific, informed and freely-given consent to do so.
As you know we sometimes send out electronic marketing information by email or text on behalf of our school partners (for example, the PTA or our uniform and school meal suppliers). In order to continue doing this after 25th May 2018 we need to obtain your permission.
Please read the attached form thoroughly and outline your agreement as appropriate. The form is valid for this academic year and should be returned to your child’s class teacher or the school office.
Why do we need your consent?
Purley Oaks Primary School requests the consent of parents and carers on an annual basis to send them digital marketing material, e.g. flyers and advertisements, from organisations associated with the school, such as the PTA.
Without your consent, the school will not send you any electronic marketing material. Similarly, if there are only certain conditions under which you would like to receive marketing material, the school will abide by the conditions you outline in this form.
Why are we sending you marketing material?
We use marketing material to promote the events that are taking place at school, for example the summer fair. Events which raise money for the school are only successful if the school receives support from the parents and carers of its pupils; therefore, we feel it is important to obtain your consent to send you promotional material.
You are under no obligation to respond to any marketing material and we appreciate that it may not always be feasible for you to do so. Through sending marketing material, our primary aim is to inform you of the events that are taking place during the school year and, if you wish to partake in them, how you can do so and to what benefit.
What are the conditions of use?
-
- The consent form is valid for the current 2017/2018 academic year.
- It is the responsibility of parents and carers to inform the school, in writing, if consent needs to be withdrawn or amended.
- The school will not send any marketing material to parents and carers that has not already been consented to.
- The school will not share this list with any third parties without prior consent from parents and carers.
- The school will not send any marketing material to parents and carers if it is not already mentioned in this form.
Providing your consent
Please read the conditions on the form thoroughly and provide your consent as appropriate by ticking either ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ for each criterion.
The school will only send you digital marketing material for the conditions that you provide consent for.
Refreshing your consent
This form is valid for the current 2017/2018 academic year – it will be updated on an annual basis. Parents and carers are required to fill in a new form for every academic year.
Consent will also be refreshed where any changes to circumstances occur – this can include, but is not limited to, the following:
- New requirements for consent, e.g. an additional form of distributing marketing material
- Changes to school circumstances, e.g. if a new headteacher reviews how the school markets itself
Where you would like to amend the provisions for which consent has been provided, you must submit your request in writing to the school office. A new form will be supplied to you to amend your consent accordingly and provide a signature.
Withdrawing your consent
You have the right to withdraw their consent at any time. Withdrawing your consent will lead to you no longer receiving any marketing material from the school.
If you would like to withdraw your consent, you must submit your request in writing to the school office. If you receive any marketing material after you have withdrawn consent, please contact the school office as soon as possible via email: admin@purleyoaks.croydon.sch.uk or, alternatively, by phone: 020 8688 4268.
If you have any questions regarding consent for electronic or digital marketing or about this form, please do not hesitate to contact the school office by email at admin@purleyoaks.croydon.sch.uk or by calling 020 8688 4268.
